Dear Colleague, 

Let me quickly introduce myself.  My name is Lan Turner and I’m the president of Gecko Software, Inc., a software development firm located in Logan, UT.

As a business owner, I was in desperate need of a contact management software application that would allow me to organize my communications with customers, clients, resellers, vendors, plus friends and family. I wanted this information to be:

  • Well Organized: all contact information in one easy to access location. 
  • Receive & Send Emails:  plus have them organized in the same management environment.
  • Manage My Time & Appointments: having my task management lists and appointment calendar right at my fingertips.

I looked the world over for such a program; I tried Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, I tried Telemagic, ACT, Goldmine, and a dozen other applications I found on the Internet, but nothing was what I was looking for.  I felt like one of Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters trying to shove my big foot into a gruesomely small-minded application.

ACT ate my data, not to mention the three months of wasted time trying to train my staff on it.  Then, after giving up on ACT and moving over to Goldmine, I never could retrieve my data. The organization (or lack thereof) in Outlook reminded me of an electronic piling system.  Either it was way too complicated, with a thousand different windows, folders, buttons and icons and sales graphs and sheets and kitchen sinks and disposals, or it didn’t do everything I needed.  I didn’t want all the “features” that came from a program that’s been bloated beyond recognition; I just needed a simple, quick and effective contact, email, and time-management system.


Taking Matters into My Own Hands!!

Being in the computer software business and having such a high degree of frustration with all the other applications on the market, I set out to design my own package. 

I wrote down all the things I wanted, and even better, I wrote down all the things I didn’t want.  I assigned this project to my programmers and finally we’ve achieved what I consider to be the holy grail of contact, email, time and task management software (Gecko Contact Manager).  I’ve been using Contact Manager now for almost two years here at my office; I’ve shared it with a few of my friends, but for the most part, it’s been my own little project for my own needs.  But now, I think it’s finally time to share this application with others; it’s one of a kind and I love it.
